Fern's cover CD with astroturf - suitable for sunbathing...Ferns' debut album On Botany attracted quite a bit of rave reviews since its release early December 2006. To date, the band has been interviewed on Redfm and Traxx FM, appeared in KLue, Junk online and The Star, was voted as one of the top 25 myspace bands for 2006 by Rolling Stones (one of the two Malaysian bands to make the list), recently shared the stage with other notables like Naked Breed at Bar Laundry, had a music video made by Fairuz Sulaiman on Disaster Strikes Again in collaboration with Junk music project - Fortnight 2006 presented by Nokia Nseries using a Nokia N93 handphone. Ferns will soon be playing at Crossborders - Bar Laundry again with Singaporean band Ronin on Jan 25 and will appear in Apple Trees and Honey Bees on Feb 2 at Jam Asia.
This is one promising local indie band to look out for this year - with its light folk pop tunes that will please loyal fans and attract new listeners. My personal favourite tracks are happy-go-lucky Love in a Handful of Beans and the dreamy Citadel.
On Botany is available for RM23 at Music Magic, Mezzanine Floor, Central Market and Rock Corner, Bangsar Village. For mail order enquiries, email the band at fernfrens@gmail.com. For a sample, visit www.myspace.com/fernfrens
