When I heard there was another animation on penguins, I personally hope it would fail. Happy feet left me with a cold taste in the mouth, would Surf’s Up make me want to watch Baywatch reruns? Not that they are directly related. Unfortunately Surf’s Up didn’t fail. In fact I thought it was rather funny without lame one-liners. The storyline was simple and predictable but I like the fact it didn’t linger with empathy and the ending was straight to the point. No sappy background music or characters breaking into the occasional song and dance.

Told in docu-reality style, it’s a refreshing take on the direction of animated movies. Not recommended for the diehard Disney fans with no sense of dry humour. I need to thank the movie distributor for tonight’s preview passes otherwise I’d never knew what I missed. Working in the book industry does have its perks.
